The major scale

You have heard this before you ever studied anything.

Eight notes climbing to the same note an octave higher, and it sounds finished, ordinary, almost inevitable. That is the major scale, and it is the sound most Western music is measured against.

What makes it sound that way is not the notes. It is the distances between them.
